Poco X2 is launching tomorrow; here’s what early buyers need to know

Poco India is all set to launch their second device on 4 February at 12 pm. The device comes almost 18 months after the big reveal of Poco F1. Poco X2 will be aiming to cash in on the hype created by its first gen device. Poco India has been teasing the phone since December last year and in the process has revealed quite a lot of details about it.

Here’s what we know about the device so far:

Design

Prior to the official launch, the company has released a teaser which gives a strong idea about what to expect in terms of design. The device showed in the teaser has a resemblance with the recently launched Redmi K30. The device has only been revealed in China so far. If the teaser is to be believed, the new device seems like the re-branded version of the Redmi K30. This could be both good and bad news for potential buyers.

With the first generation, Xiaomi opted for something entirely different. The design was undeniably basic but the company claimed that it helped them limit the price. With the X2, the leaks suggest that it will come with a more contemporary glass design. The device in the teaser has a purple hue and we expect Poco to launch more colour variants for the Poco X2. The front panel will come with an all screen design with a punch-hole front facing camera, similar to the Redmi K30. One can expect a slim chin at the bottom of the screen.

Performance

If the phone is a re-branded version of the Redmi K30, the Poco X2 will feature Snapdragon 730G which is a chipset that has been tweaked for gamers. Considering the marketing of the device, which is heavily focused on gamers, 730G is what buyers can expect. According to Qualcomm, the new chip gets a 15% graphics boost in comparison to the Snapdragon 730.

Camera

The phone is expected to carry a camera setup identical to the Redmi K30. There are four different sensors in the primary camera. The main camera includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro shooter, and 2MP depth sensor.

Display

Poco India hasn’t been shying away from flaunting the 120Hz display that will feature in the Poco X2. Though we are not sure about how the device will be priced, it will definitely be one of the cheapest if not the cheapest smartphone to feature a high refresh rate display.

Battery

Poco X2 has big shoes to fill in terms of battery too. Poco F1’s battery life was among the best when it was launched. However, the added burden of a 120Hz display will test its battery life. The device is expected to feature a 4500mAh battery and will come with 27W fast charging capacity. The phone will use a USB Type C port for charging and data transfer.

Miscellaneous

Headphone jack: Audiophiles planning to buy the Poco X2 can rest assured that the device will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Side-mounted fingerprint scanner: To maintain a clean aesthetic and still stick to a cost effective LCD screen, Poco will be opting for a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Price

Poco has been tight-lipped about the price of the new X2. However, the use of a cheaper but efficient chipset indicates that the Xiaomi subsidiary might go with a sub- 20,000 price tag for the base variant. Similar to the Redmi K30, the device is expected to offer three storage variants including 64GB, 128GB and 256GB variants.

iOS Copy-Paste Data Vulnerable to Snooping by Other Apps: Researchers

When it comes to data privacy and security, Apple has rarely shied away from taking credit for its encryption and security. Even in the tech industry, analysts have time to time lauded the company for its relatively secure operating system when compared to its immediate competitors. But now an alleged flaw in its ecosystem, exposed by two researchers, may allow personal data in Apple’s iPad and iPhone devices to be intercepted. According to Talal Haj Bakry and Tommy Mysk, when a user copies any miscellaneous data, it gets stored on Apple’s general pasteboard (commonly known as clipboard). This data temporarily stored to the device’s memory can be accessed by all apps, thereby, risks revealing private information such as a user’s GPS coordinates, passwords and banking details. “iOS and iPad operating system apps have unrestricted access to the system-wide general pasteboard,” the duo noted in a post published on Monday. They added saying, “A user may unwittingly expose their precise ...
